While the upcoming historical drama As Deep as the Grave looks very much like an ensemble piece, the independent film has attracted a lot of attention for one key cast member: The late Val Kilmer, who was cast in the project prior to his death in 2025 and has been incorporated into the film with the use of generative AI and the cooperation of his family and estate. The new trailer, released at CinemaCon, reveals what to expect from Kilmer’s appearances in the film, which feature him at a variety of ages.
Variety reports that Kilmer plays “Father Fintan, a Catholic priest and Native American spiritualist” in the film, with the rest of the (allegedly non-AI cast) including Abigail Lawrie, Tom Felton, Abigail Breslin, Tatanka Means, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Wes Studi, and Finn Jones.
Written and directed by Coerte Voorhees, As Deep as the Grave currently has no set release date. Check out the new trailer below, and for a reminder of the incredible filmography Kilmer left behind, check out his 11 best roles.
