Bear McCreary has released the new single “Cool Kids” featuring Slash and Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses as well as Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The single, which also included Bear’s brother Brendan McCreary on vocals, comes from the renowned TV and film composer’s upcoming album The Singularity: Ekleipsis, set to arrive July 31st.

The song blends hard rock with glam rock, nailing the same mixture of early Guns N’ Roses. The opening bass riff gives off a very Megadeth “Peace Sells” vibe, while the verse riff offers the bounce of a classic Rage Against the Machine riff.

McCreary stated, “‘Cool Kids’ was born when Duff McKagan sent me a voice memo of a riff he was messing around wit. My ears perked up instantly — his riff was undeniable! So Duff and I went into the studio the next week along with my brother, vocalist Brendan McCreary, and Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers and wrote the song together. We went in with Duff’s initial riff and our enthusiasm, and walked out with ‘Cool Kids.’ When Slash got back into town, he added his signature screaming guitar parts, and there it was. ‘Cool Kids’ is a song about all of us being proudly who we are, but I wouldn’t blame anybody for assuming the title was inspired by the fact that Brendan and I got to create this song with the coolest kids in rock and roll.”

In addition to “Cool Kids,” McCreary has also unveiled the eight-minute “One Fine Day,” a song also featuring Slash. The track is a prog rock piece that is comparable to Leprous with its acrobatic legato vocal and grand theatricality.

McCreary will be on the road in Europe in July through August (tickets here), with a North American tour slated for September (tickets here).
