Billy Strings has announced his new album, So Much for Goodbyes, out August 28th via Reprise Records. As a preview, the bluegrass star has released the new single “Burn the Other End.” Stream it below.
Produced by Strings and T Bone Burnett, the 16-track project was recorded as the artist processed deep grief. “I made this record to honor my mother,” Strings explained in a statement.

“To notice and embrace this very significant period of grief in my life and make art from it. To turn my heartbreak into songs while using my guitar as a coping mechanism as I always have. It’s always been there for me to lean on through the hard times, and I figure it always will… until it’s my time to say goodbye”
The lead single “Burn the Other End,” which Strings co-wrote with Paul Hoffman, is a passionate tune about sacrifices and moving forward. “Traded everything I love for what I have become,” he sings. “It’s wasted, no wonder I’m afraid/ Always struggling to justify the sacrifice I’ve made.”
Pre-orders for So Much for Goodbyes are ongoing. It follows Strings’ 2024 Grammy-winning album, Highway Prayers.
Strings is set to resume touring in July after breaking his leg in April while skateboarding backstage. This includes his inaugural Ionia Freak Fair in Ionia, Michigan, on August 28th and 29th, featuring a metal stage with hardcore heroes Bane, death metal veterans Cryptopsy, and more.
