Blondshell has unveiled a new single, “Heart Has to Work So Hard,” and announced a North American tour.
The song is the first glimpse of a new album to be released on via Partisan Records by Blondshell, the brainchild of Sabrina Teitelbaum.
Heavy drums lay the foundation for layers of static-laden, arpeggiated and reverberating guitars. Quiet verses break down to atmospheric interludes before bursting into thunderous choruses, a soft-loud dynamic that reflects the emotional tension of the lyrics.
“You give me pause/ You get me scaring strangers/ You get me criticizing/ You make this feel like labor,” Teitelbaum sings before the refrain, “My heart has to work so hard when you’re around.”
“This song is really about friendship and betrayal, getting stuck in a dynamic and letting things fester,” Teitelbaum said in a press release. “It’s about pain and confusion — no one trains you for the ups and downs of a friendship between two women — but it’s also about a love so enduring that you find compassion no matter what.”
The single is Blondshell’s first new music since last year’s album If You Asked for a Picture.
Blondshell also released the schedule for a North American tour for this fall.
Starting October 14th at Observatory North Park in San Diego, Blondshell heads out on a 13-date run of theatres and mid-sized venues, hitting cities like Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Chicago and New York. The North American tour stops at House of Blues in Boston November 7th before Blondshell sets out on a European jaunt.
Tickets for the North American tour go on sale Friday, May 22nd at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster.
Blondshell is also appearing at festivals this summer, including Bonnaroo and Summerfest in Milwaukee.
Consequence named Blondshell the Rookie of the Year for 2023 after the release of a debut self-titled album.
