Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon has dipped into local commercial jingles, and what better culinary delight to kick off this new phase of his musical career than Meatloaf Dippers. Stream the jingle below.
The swerve into jingle-making flew under the radar, with the commercial coming out in late August to promote Howard’s Bar in downtown Stillwater, Minnesota and one of its most distinctly Midwestern menu items — fried meatloaf sticks.
Meatloaf Dippers sound lovely but, they don’t sound like a “Skinny Love.”
“Meatloaf dippers at Howard’s in Stillwater/Meatloaf dippers can be a whole meal or starter/Meatloaf dippers, oh so light and yummy/Go on and warm your tummy, with dippers,” Vernon sings, drilling the word “meat” into your ear and straight to the part of your brain that clings to songs with an iron fist. The jingle is partnered with Schoolhouse Rock-style animation from illustrator Nick Stokes.
Howard’s Bar, opened in 2023, is owned by Chef Adam To and his musician wife Caroline Smith, who is no stranger to collaborations with prominent musicians, having put out a song in 2014 with Lizzo.
What more is there to say about Meatloaf Dippers than Bon Appétiver.
