Six years after it was first designed, the LEGO Daft Punk set is finally being released. But that’s not all; it turns out the fan-submitted design has kicked off a deeper partnership between the French electronic duo and the building bricks, as Daft Punk and LEGO have announced a full-scale partnership.
The collaboration will span “product, content and brand experiences… that crosses music, culture and creative spaces” according to a press release. The announcement was first teased during an October 21st broadcast on Daft Punk’s WDPK 83.7, where a metallic-gloved hand could be seen activating a switch inside a futuristic control room to reveal the glowing outline of a LEGO brick. Along with the duo’s robot designations TB3 (Thomas Bangalter) and GM08 (Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo), the cryptic markings displayed “2007” and “22.10,” pointing to both the announcement date and the iconic “Alive 2007” tour pyramid stage.
That stage will be the first product greenlit from the partnership, having been originally designed by fan Patrick Harboun (aka RobotRock) and his then-8-year-old son for LEGO’s 2020 “Music to Our Ears!” competition. It won (second prize went to a great Gorillaz set), but ultimately was not selected for manufacturing. Four years later, Harboun resubmitted the model to LEGO Ideas. The project subsequently reached the 10,000-supporter threshold and was placed under extended consideration following LEGO’s first Ideas review of 2025. In October that year, it moved to the “Parking Lot” – a sort of stasis for accepted designs that aren’t ready for production due to timing, licensing, or other concerns – where it had three review cycles to be cleared.
Turns out the only thing holding the set back was the desire for an even bigger collaboration between Daft Punk and LEGO. “This all started as a creative escape during lockdown between my son and I because of our shared love of Daft Punk and LEGO building,” Harboun said in a statement. “We never dared imagine it would take off in this way. Watching our passion project become part of an official collaboration is an incredible experience, and it’s a reminder of what makes the LEGO Ideas community so special. That a simple idea, shared by fans, really can become something much bigger.”
The first official look at the partnership comes with an announcement video set to “Voyager” and “Human After All” and revealing the Daft Punk minifigs. Check it out below.
The collaboration arrives more than five years after Daft Punk announced their breakup in February 2021. Although the duo has not reunited in the studio or on stage, their catalog and visual legacy have remained in the spotlight through a series of reissues, restorations, and other projects. Earlier this year, their 2006 film Electroma received a 4K restoration for its 20th anniversary.
This is also the second major artist collaboration from LEGO announce this year. Over the summer, the company partnered with Olivia Rodrigo for five sets: Olivia’s Secret Storage, Dual Guitar, Concert Moon, Flower Bouquet, and Vinyl Display.
