A new 4K restoration of Daft Punk’s Electroma will premiere at the 2026 edition of Tribeca Festival.

Set for Monday, June 8th, the screening coincides with the 20th anniversary of the avant-garde science fiction film, which was directed by the duo’s Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. Following the screening, Bangalter and co-writer/editor Cédric Hervet will participate in a live conversation to discuss the film’s legacy.

Electroma originally premiered at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, having evolved from what was initially intended to be a music video for the track “Human After All” into a full-length feature. The project follows two robots (played by the duo) on a journey through the American Southwest in a desperate quest to become human. While the film has been available to the public over the years via limited DVD releases and various streaming platforms, this Tribeca screening marks the first time audiences can experience the cult classic through a high-fidelity 4K restoration.

This restoration follows a similar archival milestone for the group’s filmography. In 2024, the duo’s 2003 anime visual album Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem — a collaboration with Leiji Matsumoto that served as a companion to the Discovery album — received a theatrical re-release.

The Electroma event is one of several major retrospectives at the 25th annual Tribeca Festival, appearing alongside 50th-anniversary celebrations for Taxi Driver and 25th-anniversary events for Bridget Jones’s Diary. Single tickets are currently available through the festival’s website.
