Danny Glover shared Wednesday that he has been living the last several years with Alzheimer’s disease.
The 79-year-old actor went public with his diagnosis during an interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt that aired Wednesday on TODAY.
Glover’s most recent on-screen film role came in the 2023 Disney+ movie The Naughty Nine. While he has acknowledged that the disease has affected his movement, speech, and memory, he has remained active in recent years, continuing to appear at social justice events and fan conventions.
“I’m sure as it advances, things are going to be different and changing,” Glover admitted to Holt.
Glover and his family said he decided to go public with his illness in the hope of reducing misconceptions surrounding the disease and giving him “control of his own narrative, of his own life story.”
