Classic Van Halen members David Lee Roth and Alex Van Halen are set to reunite for a TED Talk this Thursday (July 30th) as part of this year’s TEDxFargo event.
The two musicians haven’t appeared together in public since Van Halen’s final concert on October 4th, 2015, at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
For the TED Talk, they’ll be in conversation with visual artist Robert Vargas. While Alex Van Halen was announced several weeks ago, DLR was just added.
The conversation will take place with all three of them in the same room on Thursday, but it won’t be posted on YouTube for public viewing until a few weeks after the event.
David Lee Roth’s immediate schedule cleared up after he recently canceled the remainder of his summer tour, except for an August 7th gig at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. No reason was given for the cancellation, although there were reports of low ticket sales.
While Alex Van Halen and David Lee Roth have had tense moments over the years, Alex has been very complimentary of the singer while promoting his recent book Brothers.
The drummer completely ignored Van Halen’s Sammy Hagar era in the memoir, and has said in interviews that the classic DLR lineup was “the driving force” of the band, In recent years, Alex and Roth have each feuded with Hagar.
