Dolly Parton died following a “brief battle” with cancer, according to a new statement from her representatives.
Parton, 80, passed away at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville on Tuesday, surrounded by loved ones, the statement added.
Parton had acknowledged facing health issues in recent months, prompting the cancellation of her planned Las Vegas residency. In various updates to fans, she said her ailments included kidney stones, issues related to her immune and digestive systems, and dehydration. She attributed neglecting her own health to focusing on caring for her late husband, Carl Dean, but assured fans that her conditions were “treatable.”
“Our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched. Her unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet, yet she was always there to offer a helping hand,” the statement from Parton’s representatives said.
“Whether it be the hundreds of millions of books donated through her invaluable Imagination Library or funding research that helped create a lifesaving vaccine used around the world, Dolly’s unconditional love for all people was the guiding force for her lasting impact. After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones.”
At Parton’s request, a small, private service will be held for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, her family has has asked fans looking to pay tribute to make a donation to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at www.imaginationlibrary.com.
