Ed Sheeran’s weekend concerts at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, have been canceled due to the forecasted severe weather.
“Stadium and tour management, along with public safety officials, have been closely monitoring the weather forecast over the past week. Due to the severe weather forecast throughout the weekend, the tour has made the difficult decision to cancel the Ed Sheeran concerts at Gillette Stadium,” a representative for the tour’s promoter, Messina Touring, said in a statement.
“The decision was made with the safety of fans, staff and everyone involved in the shows as the top priority. Refunds are available now at the point of purchase. Ticketholders who purchased through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded.”
A nor’easter is forecast to bring damaging rain and strong winds to the region from Friday through Saturday night.
Prior to the weather cancellation, Sheeran’s Gillette Stadium shows on Friday and Saturday night had become a source of controversy after venue owner and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft forced Macklemore’s removal as an opener from Sheeran’s tour following the rapper’s outspoken support of Palestine. In response, protests had been planned outside of the stadium throughout the weekend. Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell had also called on Ticketmaster to provide refunds to fans who requested them, citing the state’s Consumer Protection Act.
