Eric Clapton cut a performance short in Madrid on May 7th after someone threw what appeared to be a record sleeve at him, video showed.
Clapton had reached the end of his set at the Moviestar Arena in Spain’s capital when an audience member tossed the presumed vinyl record and hit the legendary blues rock guitarist in the torso. Clapton had just finished “Cocaine” before the incident.
During previous sets, Clapton had come back to the stage to play “Before You Accuse Me.” The 81-year-old musician didn’t appear injured but left the stage and didn’t perform the expected encore.
Clapton is on tour in Europe and comes to the US in September for concerts in Detroit, Chicago and Austin as well as other cities.
In recent years, Clapton garnered controversy for anti-vaccination beliefs, helping spread misinformation about health conditions and aligning with Robert Kennedy Jr.
