Eugene Mirman, known as the voice of Gene on Bob’s Burgers as well as appearances on Flight of the Conchords and Archer, was involved with a life-threatening car crash in Bedford, New Hampshire on Tuesday.
After crashing into the Bedford Toll Plaza on the F.E. Everett Turnpike, Deadline reports, the car caught fire. Mirman was then rescued by bystanders including New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte’s detail and a veteran state trooper, who pulled him through the window to safety.
UPDATE: On Thursday morning, comedian Jesse Thorn posted an update on Mirman’s status on Bluesky, revealing that “Eugene is recovering well, alert and joking and will go home in a few days.”
The incident is now under investigation; no charges have been filed.
In addition to his ongoing work on Bob’s Burgers, Mirman’s other recent credits include appearances on Last Week Tonight and the animated series Teenage Euthanasia. His latest comedy special, Here Comes the Whimsy, was just released this February.
Eugene is recovering well, alert and joking and will go home in a few days. A big deal accident but we will be very grateful this good guy genius will recover.
