The new LP follows the former CoSign honoree’s STRUGGLER, a wildly fearless concept record that was one of our favorites of 2023. REDSTAR WU turns Owusu’s experimental explorations from the existential to the immediate. “I started writing this album because I was seeing so much of the world and watching what was happening,” Owusu said in a press statement. “I feel like I’m a student of Nina Simone, and she said, ‘The purpose of an artist is to reflect the times they live in.’”
Prerelease singles “Pirate Radio,” “Death Cult Zombie,” “Stampede,” and “Life Keeps Going” are amongst the 14 songs that also see features from Duckwrth (“Hellstar”) and Ladyhawke (“Falling Both Ways”).
