Gibson is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers with a limited run of Flying V guitars, as well as a new apparel collection.
The Flying V is inspired by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ self-titled 1976 debut album, which features a Flying V guitar piercing a heart on its cover. The guitar comes in five colors — Gainesville Gold, Graphite Metallic, Heartbreaker Red, Pearl White Metallic, and Pelham Blue — limited to 50 each, for a total run of just 250.
The late Tom Petty’s daughter Adria stated, “The Heartbreakers logo has been part of the band’s identity since the first album, so seeing Gibson reinterpret it through the Flying V 50th anniversary edition feels overdue as they have been part of the story since the beginning. The V was an essential part of the imagery onstage for my dad as well as the band rose to fame in the 1970’s. The collection honors Tom and the Heartbreakers’ history while giving musicians and fans a new way to carry that spirit forward.”
In addition to the limited-edition guitars, Gibson has unveiled a Tom Petty apparel collection, featuing T-shirts, a leather jacket, hats, belts, and more.
The guitars and the apparel are available at Gibson.com, although most of the guitar styles are sold out already.
Gibson made the announcement on Tuesday, October 20th, which would have been Tom Petty’s 76th birthday. See images of the guitars and the apparel in the photos below.
