Like other great hucksters, Gwyneth Paltrow has not met a product yet she wouldn’t sell. Her Goop lifestyle brand has often been criticized for selling knick-knacks ranging from dumb to dangerous, and she’s now signed on to help an Israeli real estate company peddle luxury condos to Americans.

The ad, which is mostly boring but occasionally so-bad-it’s-funny, was filmed in New York, and finds Paltrow running through a park that we are meant to take as Central Park. The commercial emphasizes how much running sucks — describes it as truly just a dogshit experience. It’s trying to make the point that doing something hard (as it turns out, spending millions of dollars to live within a 30-minute drive of the West Bank) can be worth it.

“There’s a reason the world’s most iconic buildings are by a park,” Paltrow says, getting into a car. She tells the driver to take her to “51 Park.”

“New York?” he wonders. You would think this is a dumb question — after all, they are in New York! Why would he expect her to mean another city? But somehow, he has anticipated her insane request.

“Herzliya,” Paltrow corrects, “Israel.” We don’t see the driver again, so there’s no way of knowing whether he looks puzzled or pleased at the thought of a big fare once the car emerges on the other side of the Atlantic. Did I mention the commercial is kind of bad?

It has also stirred up debate online, because of, you know, Netanyahu’s decision to starve Palestinians and all the other war crimes, let alone provoking the war with Iran. True, Paltrow is not shaking Netanyahu’s hand or doing an advert for the IDF, but Israel is at the heart of like 60% of international controversies right now, and you have to wonder if there weren’t any other countries selling condominiums. You can watch the ad below.
