Jack Osbourne has given an update about the long-in-the-works biopic on the tumultuous relationship between his parents Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne.
When asked by E! News about the status of the film, Osbourne responded, “Script done. We are going out to directors. It’s gung-ho.”
Further pressed as to whether they have an actor in mind to play his late father, Jack replied, “We do. I’m not allowed to say, but conversations have been had, and if it all works out, it’s gonna be awesome.”
Jack also opened up about the overall guiding ethos behind the biopic, explainging, “I kind of have this mantra, and I always kind of say it, when in meetings with my mom or doing anything in the family business, it’s, like, ‘Give the fans what they want.’ That’s our people. That’s who we’re catering to. That’s what my dad wrote… music for. That’s what he toured for. It’s why we did the shows we did. It’s been a big theme. ‘Cause we’re doing the Ozzy movie with Sony [Pictures], and I’m always saying in the meetings, ‘All right, we gotta give the fans what they want. We can’t make this artsy kind of esoteric biopic.’ No. We’re not doing that — for many reasons, but it’s not what the fans want.”
Osbourne also delved into the family’s decision to develop an AI-powered digital Ozzy avatar, saying, “Admittedly, I think I spoke kind of out of turn in the sense of really kind of explaining why we’re doing it. Everything is gonna have an AI fingerprint on it at some point. Ultimately, it’s about preserving the digital fingerprint of my father. That’s the core essence of it. Yes, it can be utilized for other things, but ultimately it’s about getting ahead of what is the inevitability.”
The Ozzy and Sharon biopic is aiming for a 2028 release. The project’s origins date all the way back to 1998 with the current approach having been in development since 2020.
Ozzy himself said in a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone, “From what I understand, it’s about Sharon and I and our relationship. It’s how we met, fell in love, and how we married. She’s my other half. She grew up a lot with me, and I grew up a lot with her.”
He also told Consequence in our 2022 cover story, “I don’t want to have anyone like Johnny Depp act as me. I rather have someone who is relatively unknown.”
