On Tuesday, Charley Crockett posted a defensive new missive on Instagram in which he sought to further explain his decision to drop Satanic doo-wop group Twin Temple from his own tour. In Crockett’s latest explanation (which has since been deleted from Instagram), he mainly cited production requests that “raised eyebrows,” while also acknowledging he didn’t think Twin Temple’s Satanic aesthetic was “right for an all-ages audience.” Crockett also directed some anger at Jack White, who subsequently offered Twin Temple an opening slot on his own tour.

“[He] used it to sell tickets too and I lost a lot of respect for him,” Crockett said of White. He also hilariously questioned why White “wasn’t so outspoken back when he was in the White Stripes 20-something years ago. They purposely avoided political issues. Maybe he was worried about losing audience back when it was all on the line and he needed all the help he could get.” (Crockett apparently never listened to White Stripes songs such as “Icky Thump” or “The Union Forever.”)

Anyway, White has responded to Crockett and seemingly mocked his cowboy shtick by posting the lyrics to “Rappin’ Duke,” Shawn Brown’s 1984 novelty rap track about a rapping John Wayne.

“I never said nothing about this young buck before, but since he’s trying to drag me into this here rodeo again, here’s my official response to Cowboy Charley’s accusations,” White wrote before sharing the lyrics.
