James Cody Lollar, Musician Known as GOST, Has Died

James Cody Lollar, the dark-synthwave artist known as GOST, has passed away. The sad news was posted on the musician’s social pages, with no cause of death revealed.

The statement announcing Lollar’s passing reads as follows:

“The whole GOST team is incredibly saddened to inform you that James Cody Lollar, known as GOST, passed away yesterday. We are sending all our prayers to his family and friends during this time of grief. He will be remembered as a wonderful human being and a tremendously talented artist.

We kindly ask that everyone respect the privacy of his loved ones during these difficult times. He will be deeply missed by all.”

GOST debuted in January of 2013 with the EP Radio Macabre, making the project one of the first in the synthwave and retrosynth movement that became ubiquitous in heavy music spaces by the end of the decade.

His music fused that retro sensibility of analog synthesizers and darker, driving music, but carried also an explicitly Satanic aesthetic, replete with inverted crosses and skull-headed apparitions.

GOST’s career spanned the next decade, spawning five studio albums, five EPs, one soundtrack and a number of singles, covers, remixes and collaborations.

Our condolences go out to James Cody Lollar’s family and friends during this difficult time. Watch a couple of his music videos below.
