A new BBC documentary details allegations of sexual misconduct against Jared Leto from 10 women, including four who say the actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman engaged in criminal sexual conduct when they were teenagers.
One woman, identified by the pseudonym Isabel, alleges that Leto sexually assaulted her in a Las Vegas motel bathroom when she was 17. Another woman, Alex, was 19 when she says she met Leto but “felt the need” to tell him she was younger. “Age is just a number, and anyway, we’re in Europe,” he allegedly replied. She says she later found herself alone with Leto in his hotel room, where he allegedly threatened her with sexual assault.
A third woman, Clara, says she had sex with Leto in California when she was 17 and he was 34, despite discussing the state’s age of consent with him. Another woman, identified by the pseudonym Etta, says Leto began making sexually explicit phone calls to her when she was 16 and later arranged for her to receive a non-disclosure agreement, which she refused to sign.
Four other women described receiving strange and often highly sexual phone calls from Leto when they were younger, with three of them saying they were teenagers at the time. Another woman, Taylor, says Leto made a sexual comment about her body when she was 14 and instructed a security guard to take her backstage.
Additionally, two men who worked with Thirty Seconds to Mars told the BBC that staff members were uncomfortable with the way Leto interacted with teenage girls, including instances in which he allegedly invited them backstage to his dressing room or to the house where the band was recording.
The BBC says it corroborated a number of the women’s accounts through friends and family who were told about their encounters with Leto at the time, as well as photographs and messages that support their claims. The alleged incidents occurred between 2002 and 2016, when Leto was in his 30s and 40s.
Leto did not respond to the BBC’s repeated requests for comment and has not addressed the allegations presented in the documentary.
