Johnny Marr has announced a new album, The Age of Everything, his fifth solo studio record. Marr also released a preview of the album with the single “Spin.” Stream it below.

The Age of Everything is scheduled for release October 2nd via BMG records. Marr wrote songs for the record while staying in London then honed the songs on a North American east coast tour before returning to England to lay down the tracks in a Manchester studio, according to a press release. The album promises to be “sharp, fast and dynamic.” Fans can pre-order the album here.

“This is the record that’s been the most cathartic,” Marr said in a statement. “The title came to me early in the process and became an inescapable idea. It seemed to sum up the way I think a lot of people are feeling. It’s all encompassing, but it’s not necessarily a negative statement. There’s a sense of overwhelm in the culture brought about by technology, but looking at it with a different light, there could also be a sense of possibility.”

“Spin” is a chic, guitar-driven rock song with hypnotic arpeggios that burst into a full-throated chorus. The song has a galloping, kick-drum-driven rhythm, imbuing the song with a sneaky hip-shaking quality and recalling aughts dance punk.

In February, Marr appeared on the Damon Albarn led track “Flag” as part of the HELP(2) charity compilation. Marr’s previous studio record was Fever Dreams Pts 1-4, a double album from 2022.
