The latest film from Ben Shapiro’s tax write-off Daily Wire movie studio stars Jonathan Majors and concerns radical Islamic terrorists attacking woke college students. The trailer is out now, and it looks awful. I mean it is awful in the sense that it is racist and bigoted and generally disdainful of everyone under the age of 45. But the quality of the film is very much in doubt.
The title is hard to parse — Run Hide Fight: Infidels — and even if you can stumble past the missing punctuation, the trailer is surprisingly bad. The whole thing leaves us with a lot of questions. Seven to be exact.
If Jonathan Majors isn’t the bad guy, why does he say “wombs of our women” like that?
The terrorists are supposed to be the bad guys, I think. But the guns are photographed like super models, and the grenade tossed into a crowd of students is the closest the trailer comes to having fun. Meanwhile Jonathan Majors is just chewing on the words “wombs of our women;” wasn’t there anyone on the set to say, “Hey, this dialogue is weird enough, so maybe try to speak normally?”
Who decided that the phrase “Uncle Tom” should be in the logline?
The official synopsis includes red-blooded students, a Delta Force vet, and “a security guard tired of ‘Uncle Tom’ smears.” Sure, the real racists are progressives, heard it. And sure, put a slur in your marketing and call it razzle-dazzle. But this is more of a confession than a character: Some 18-year-olds were mean to a middle-aged man, and now he’s got a rifle and a point to prove. Guys. You can just apologize to your kids.
Didn’t right-wing nutjobs used to have better propaganda?
From the depiction of the KKK in Birth of a Nation to Leni Riefenstahl’s Nazi flicks, the right used to manipulate truth in style. Nowadays conservatives hardly put any effort into their hating. I didn’t expect the filmmakers behind Run Hide Fight to respect immigrants, women, or men who have successfully talked to a woman. But they could at least respect themselves.
Whose money did Ben Shapiro light on fire this time?
From the man who brought you such, uh, memorable titles as Terror on the Prairie, The Shut-In, and The Pendragon Cycle comes Shapiro’s latest scheme to separate a wealthy donor from their money. Attempting to flank Hollywood from the right, the whole business plan is based on the idea that Hollywood studios are run by they/them morons, and not some of the most ruthless capitalists on the planet. Turns out making money in the film industry is hard: Daily Wire’s one hit to date is the 2024 Matt Walsh documentary Am I Racist?, which made about $12 million on a $3 million budget. Everything else has flopped. Shapiro is living out the plot of The Producers in real life, and if his backers weren’t such hateful people, we’d be talking about how his financing schemes are almost indistinguishable from elder abuse.
Does Jonathan Majors still have the gold Bible that he brandished in court in the face of his sexual assault accuser and that he thought would make him seem normal?
Because it didn’t. Does he polish it? Does he have a favorite verse — perhaps Proverbs 16:16: “How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!” Did he get rid of the Bible, perhaps after thinking to himself, “This is heavy, I see why books are normally made of paper?” It was one of the strangest moves I’ve ever seen an accused person make, and at this point, I’m afraid I’ve thought about that gold Bible more than Majors ever did.
