And given his taste, Trump probably enjoyed the song

Divorce is expensive, which may or may not be how Keith Urban found himself at a Mar-a-Lago private party for Australian billionaire Anthony Pratt singing Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” to President Donald Trump.

Video of the performance comes from Instagram user tali.florida, whose posts from the party showed hundreds of white-haired men alongside notably younger women, many of the latter boasting what Mar-a-Lago insiders call Mar-a-Lago face (“President Trump is all-in on aesthetics, and bolder is always better”). PEOPLE reports that Trump sat next to Pratt for most of the evening, which isn’t exactly a surprise, since Pratt donated $10 million to the President’s 2024 reelection campaign.

As for the Aussie Urban, he knew what he was doing performing the coming-out anthem “Pink Pony Club” for this President. But how much credit he gets for that is in the eye of the beholder. The charitable view might see this as an expression of moderation — exposing some bigots to queer music, while proving that the Trump crowd has more tolerance than they get credit for. Others might see a coward ready to run with the hares or hunt with the hounds, depending on which side is picking up speed. Your mileage may vary, but this is pretty clearly different from a Kanye-going-full-Groyper situation.

No word yet on whether Trump liked “Pink Pony Club,” but I bet he’s a fan. This is a man whose favorite movie is Sunset Boulevard (“Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close-up”) and whose favorite musical is Les Misérables. I’m not saying he’s secretly gay — and despite a viral comment from Jeffrey Epstein’s brother, I doubt he’s ever given a blow job, or even performed oral sex on a woman. (I hate to break it to you guys, but “blowing Bubba” was something people with a sense of humor call a “joke.”) Still, it’s easy to imagine how very different world history would be if Fred Trump had not been an abusive sociopath, and I think we can all agree that metrosexual Donnie would have done Oprah numbers on a talk show. But then Keith Urban couldn’t have collected six-or-seven figures to perform a couple of songs for some of the worst people on the planet.
