After surprise-releasing the new song “Reward the Scars” on Thursday, Korn gave the tune its live debut during its co-headlining set at the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas on Saturday. The band has also released an official music video for the track.
“Reward the Scars” marks the nu-metal band’s first song in four years, and was released in conjunction with the Lord of Hatred expansion of the Diablo IV video game.
“I’ve played Diablo for years, so getting to step into that world creatively felt natural,” stated singer Jonathan Davis. “I’ve always connected to the darkness in the game and the idea of confronting what lives beneath the surface — that’s something Korn has explored in our music from the beginning. ‘Reward the Scars’ came out of our own writing sessions as a new Korn song, and it became clear pretty quickly that it was a natural fit for Diablo.”
A press release issued on Monday teases that the song was “written during recent studio sessions” and “marks the first glimpse of what’s to come,” hinting at a potential new album from the veteran band.
Korn co-headlined Sick New World with System of a Down. The one-day fest also featured Bring Me the Horizon, Evanescence, Ministry, Knocked Loose, and dozens more acts.
