Lucy Dacus has shared a new song called “Planting Tomatoes.” Arriving alongside a lyric video that was filmed with pen and paper in Tokyo, the track was was initially released as a limited-edition Record Store Day exclusive 7-inch vinyl.
Per Dacus, via a press release, “Planting Tomatoes” is about “making a sincere effort to stay present, grateful and interested on a day you realize you’re older than someone you’ve lost.” The song features honest and earnest lyrics that encourage listeners to be intentional with life decisions: “You’ve gotta live the life you’re fighting for/ You’ve gotta live the life you would die for/ But before then, I’ve got some ideas.”
The release of “Planting Tomatoes” follows the recent announcement of new North American live dates, including two special symphony shows. One of those shows will be with the Chicago Philharmonic at Millennium Park, while the other is set for the Hollywood Bowl and its own orchestra, with Cat Power also performing The Greatest. Both shows will feature never-before-heard orchestral arrangements of Dacus’ songs from her latest album Forever Is a Feeling, as well as songs from throughout her discography.
For every headlining date, Dacus will extend her partnership with The Ally Coalition (TAC), with $1 from each ticket supporting organizations that serve queer and trans youth across North America. Dacus’ summer tour and festival appearances come in support of her 2025 album Forever Is a Feeling; she released an expanded version of the album last fall.
