Madonna has released a new remix of her Confessions II song “Danceteria” featuring Charli xcx.
Dubbed “Danceteria Afterhours,” the song finds the partygirls of past and present linking up and celebrating each other and their respective career journeys. “You wanna talk about Madonna and Charli?” Charli asks on the new remix. She proceeds to give a quick nod to her own origin story, similar to how Madonna touches on the development of her own club-centric persona in the original “Danceteria.” She also takes the second verse to acknowledge her career shift in 2015 with “A.G. and SOPHIE” before linking back up with Madonna for a final cathartic chorus. Charli and Madonna had crossed paths in years prior, but they only recently solidified their friendship. Speaking to Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio 6 Music in June, Charli xcx said she and Madonna “actually accidentally threw two parties” during what she called a “mini break” in Paris, after the pair “just couldn’t stop hanging out with each other.” She also called Madonna “so cool” and said she found it “very inspiring” to talk with her about “the music that she makes, and how and why.”
The “Afterhours” rework of “Danceteria” arrives during a big week for Madge: She’ll make a major return to the MTV VMAs on Sunday, opening the ceremony with her first performance at the event in 23 years. Madonna also earned a whopping 11 nominations for the 2026 VMAs, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year. “Danceteria” is also the latest Confessions II track to receive a remix from a fellow pop star; back in August, Madonna enlisted Kylie Minogue for an “Afterhours” rework of “Love Sensation.”
