Margaret Glaspy has announced her new album, I Am Both, and shared the lead single “Michigan.” With the record arriving August 7th, the singer-songwriter has also revealed a fall 2026 tour run.
The follow-up to the fabulous Echo the Diamond (one of our favorite records of 2023), I Am Both was produced by Joe Henry (Aimee Mann, Joan Baez). The 11-track effort came together as Glaspy broke away from social media, an intentional decision to center her thoughts again. “At first it was really hard to break that addiction to social media, but after a while something shifted,” she explained. “It felt like I’d gotten back to original thought instead of being under the influence of so many outside opinions. It was life-changing.”
Lead single “Michigan” also focuses on a life-changing event: a breakup that leads to a Midwest escape. With gentle synth organ notes from Patrick Warren (Tracy Chapman, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen), the track gently tumbles over Glaspy’s finger picking as she sings of rediscovering herself after a separation. She may be back together, but her ex isn’t: “You said you didn’t need me/ But honey whose standing in whose driveway.”
Watch the lyric video and a live acoustic performance version of “Michigan” below. The I Am Both artwork and tracklist follow, while pre-orders are available on Amazon and other retailers.
Glaspy’s fall tour starts its first North American leg on September 11th in Minneapolis (quite a confluence of date and location, if you ask us) and runs through the 26th in Brooklyn. She’ll head to the UK and EU in October, and return for another NA beginning November 4th in St. Louis. Other stops include include Ann Arbor, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Boston, Brooklyn, Vancouver, Denver, Seattle, and Los Angeles. Find the full itinerary ahead; tickets go on sale Friday, June 5th at 10:00 a.m. local time here.
