Mastodon performed their new single “Your Ghost Again” live for the first time at the O2 Universum in Prague, Czech Republic, on Wednesday, June 3rd.
Before the performance, bassist-vocalist Troy Sanders gave a short speech acknowledging a fan’s sign dedicated to late guitarist Brent Hinds before dedicating the song to the Hinds, as well.
Sanders told the audience:
“This says right here, ‘You will forever be in our hearts, Brent Hinds.’ You’re right. That brings us to something we don’t do very often is we’d like to play a brand new song for you guys. We will have a new album coming out sometimes later this year and I think just yesterday we released a new song. And this is the first song in our entire career that wasn’t done with our friend Brent who passed away last year and is no longer with us. So we’d like to do a new song for you guys and we’d like to dedicate it to Brent because we miss him and we love him also. So without further adieu this is a song called ‘Your Ghost Again.'”
“Your Ghost Again,” which features singer-drummer Brann Dailor on lead vocals, is the first taste of the as-yet untitled Mastodon album due out later this year. The song, per the band, was written about grappling with the loss of Hinds, who died in a motorcycle crash at just 51 years old last year.
The song is also the first taste of the band’s new official five-piece lineup including new guitarist Nick Johnston and longtime touring/session keyboard player João Nogueira as full-time members.
Mastodon will embark on a headlining North American tour with Deafheaven and Alcest as support in September. Tickets are available here.
