Metallica have announced the next in their line of reissues and box sets, with 1997’s ReLoad coming June 26th via Blackened Recordings. The album has been remastered by Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering with Greg Fidelman overseeing, and will be available in multiple formats.
A super-deluxe box set features slew of demos, rarities and live material, spanning 15 CDs and 4 DVDs and nearly 29 hours, as well as a lyric folder, a 11×17 “Gimme Fuel” poster, a “Fixxxer” Pushead print, three tour laminates, Rorschach test cards, 10 guitar and bass picks, a “Fully Loaded” sticker, and a 128-page book. It also includes the full album on 180-gram double vinyl, “The Memory Remains” 7″, and Live at Ministry of Sound ’97 (a 140-gram triple vinyl live album).
The band has also announced a number of other more affordable editions, including CD, digital, cassette and vinyl, as well as signed gold and platinum plaques for the album.
Fans who pre-order the box set will receive immediately several versions of “The Memory Remains,” including the remastered original recording, Instrumental Mix, Take 18 Floor Take, and Live in Brisbane. All of those versions are currently available for streaming, as well.
To promote the upcoming set, the band has released a music video for “The Memory Remains” live from the previously unreleased Banned in Philly DVD included in the set.
The release of the box set also sees the band launching their #GetTheReLoudOut fan competition where fans can submit musical covers, performances and visual art for the tracks on the album with a different track featured every day. Two winners of this competition will be selected, each receiving complete ReLoad box sets signed by the band.
Discs 2 through 5, subtitled Shadowcast, are set to contain 70 tracks of riff tapes and demoes documenting the creation of the material that appeared on the final album while discs 6 and 7 contain the entirety of the Escape from the Studio ’97 live show from Reading, England as well as a set of remixes titled Remixes from the Vault.
Discs 8 and 9 are titled Poor Acoustic Me, documenting three largely unreleased acoustic live shows including a lengthy 14-song show at KSJO featuring a bevy of guests like Les Claypool, Jerry Cantrell, Pepper Keenan, Sean Kinney, Jim Martin and more.
Discs 10 and 11 are titled Poor Australian Me, which saw four of its tracks released as B-sides for “Fuel” but is otherwise unreleased, documenting a show in early ’98 while discs 12 and 13, titled Poor North American Me, capture a show in July of that same year that is entirely unreleased.
Finally, discs 14 and 15, titled Poor Re-Touring Me ’97 – ’98 – The Soundboard Tapes are a series of songs sourced from across two years of touring featuring no repeat songs across its 28-song tracklist.
The first DVD is comprised of music videos, behind the scenes footage television appearances and an MTV live performance while the second DVD reissues a live show titled Banned in Philly that originally came out via the band’s fan club in 2001. The final two DVDs titled Poor East Asian Me and Poor Californian Me document two previously unreleased live shows.
Metallica recently announced a 24-date residency at Las Vegas’ Sphere, as well as two concerts at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. Tickets to their upcoming shows are available here.
