Muse are back with “Cryogen,” the latest single from their upcoming album The WOW! Signal.

“Cryogen,” with its winding riff from Matt Bellamy and its propulsive drumming from Dominic Howard, immediately recalls Muse’s older sound from the early aughts; the riff almost feels like an alternate version of “Plug-In Baby,” with a similarly brash guitar tone. The rest of the track is back in Muse’s rock-centered pocket, with the lyrics seeing Bellamy envisioning a freezing environment on Europa (one of Jupiter’s moons) and how, basically, it’s as cold as his heart. The track also ends with a fun Muse-style breakdown. To quote one of the YouTube comments about “Cryogen”: “The Musiest song to be Mused in years.” Check out “Cryogen” below.
