Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has revealed in an interview with NME that his band is looking into creating a “spaceship” for their November and December run of the UK and Europe.

“We’re trying to build a spaceship — as you do,” Bellamy revealed. “The quote came in and it’s more expensive than some of these houses [in Primrose Hill], and that’s saying something around here.”

He continued, “We’re trying to work with that, build a spaceship, do some new stuff with lasers that’s never been done before, and yeah, it will be a classic. It’s going to be more in the space, sci-fi realm, which I think is cool for us.”

Bellamy added that they are “trying to make it fly,” but it likely will not be possible due to the already exorbitant costs.

Unfortunately, Muse’s summer 2026 North American shows won’t feature the same production. “It’s in between arena and stadium size, but the issue is you can’t do the craziest production,” Bellamy explained. “It’ll be a similar production to what we used last summer, but with a few step-ups and a few customizations for this show. But when we come back to the UK in November, that’ll be a brand new really cool production.”

The space theme fits the concept of their new album, The WOW! Signal, which dropped this past Friday, June 26th. The project’s title comes from a 1977 space observation, when an astronomer detected a powerful 72-second radio burst originating from the constellation Sagittarius.

The astronomer circled the sequence “6EQUJ5” and wrote “WOW!” beside it, with the belief that the signal came from a potentially extraterrestrial source. The band has frequently touched on cosmic and philosophical themes on albums like Black Holes and Revelations and Simulation Theory.
