Nicky Jam has teamed up with Cuban artist El Shadow for the new single “La Foto,” months after discovering the 26-year-old through an Instagram post.
The collaboration began in February when El Shadow, whose real name is Raudel Gómez Hernández, shared a clip of the song and asked his followers to tag Nicky Jam. The reggaeton star responded within hours, writing that he wanted to join the track.
“I was like, ‘Damn, this guy has a flow and a voice that are different from what I’m used to hearing coming out of Cuba,” said Nicky Jam through a video posted on social by the Cuban singer in July. “I told him, ‘Papi, I like this song. Let’s do it, let’s get on it.’ To me, the song goes hard. I think it’s the song of the summer.”
Released through Plus Media and EMM, “La Foto” combines acoustic guitars with afrobeats and centers on the uncertainty of making the first move on a romantic interest.
The accompanying video was at a distance with El Shadow shooting his scenes in his native Camagüey, Cuba, while Nicky Jam filmed his portions in Miami. Cuban influencer Samantha Hernández also appears in the video. Check out the “La Foto” video below.
