Original Pearl Jam drummer Dave Krusen plays through the entirety of Pearl Jam’s iconic debut album album, Ten, in the latest video from Drumeo.
The performance also features Krusen explaining some of the background of the music, its composition, and his experience in its creation.
Musicians hear all the time to play for the song, and Krusen has a keen sense for the essential rhythmic elements to to push accents from the vocals and guitar parts. He is visibly relaxed the whole time, playing as light as a jazz player, which may be surprising given the enormous sound of the album.
Krusen elaborates on the early dynamic of the band, which focused primarily on Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard’s musical relationship, especially emerging from the ashes of Mother Love Bone. He also affirms the stories of how the dynamic of the band shifted when Eddie Vedder entered, with his engaged, soulful, and literary approach to vocals and lyrics immediately making him a musical equal. Not to mention, Krusen also offers plenty of fine-grain technical details about his kit setup.

Pearl Jam recently revealed that they’ve tapped a new mystery drummer to replace longtime member Matt Cameron, who left the band last year. The new drummer will be revealed at the band’s headlining set at Ohana Festival, which runs from September 25th to 27th. Get tickets here.
