PUP have released a new song, the Janus-faced “If This Is It.” The Toronto punk band also put out a stunning, year-in-the-making video for the song “Concrete” from 2025’s Who Will Look After The Dogs? Stream them below.
“If This Is It” brings aggressive confusion in the verses with gritty bass and jagged guitar riffs matched by singer Stefan Babcock’s vocal shredding, recalling post-punk bands like Fugazi, before bursting into melodic, high-tempo catharsis in the choruses. The song was recorded, a press release said, during sessions for Who Will Look After The Dogs?
More than a year after the record’s release, PUP has unveiled an ambitious stop-motion video for the album’s track “Concrete” that the band said took a year to make and hundreds of hours from a filmmaker, artists, and animators. Director Sterling Larose began the process of creating the video by filming the band playing live. More than a 1000 stills of that filming session were sent to thirteen artists who made them into magazine pages, then Larose snapped those magazine pages and stitched together 2,300 frames with animation filling out scenes.
“We’re fully aware that releasing a video for a song that’s already been out a year is a stupid thing to do,” Babcock said in a statement. “But we don’t care. At this point, we’re in an incredibly lucky position with PUP to mostly do whatever we want with this band, and for us, it was completely worth the wait. The video was made with no AI — just immense care, patience, and endless frustration on the part of the artists.”
PUP are currently on tour in the UK and Europe. They return for North American dates from August to October, including playing Riot Fest, and FEST in Gainesville, Florida along with headlining dates in Nashville, Indianapolis, and other cities. Fans can look for tickets here.
