End of the Century: The Story of the Ramones is set to receive a new theatrical screening of a 4K restoration in celebration of the 50th anniversary of their legendary debut album. This re-release via Magnolia Pictures also marks the first time ever that the film will be available digitally.
The film originally came out in 2003, covering the Ramones from their formation in the early ’70s through two decades of touring, their breakup in 1996, and the loss of two of the founding members in Joey and Dee Dee. Its title comes from the Ramones’ fifth album, 1980’s End of the Century, produced by Phil Spector.
As of now, no specific release date has been announced for the theatrical screening, with a press release only mentioning that it will hit theaters “later this year.”
The 50th anniversary celebration of the Ramones’ debut album also includes a previously announced event at Hollywood’s Forever Cemetary this Sunday, August 30th, featuring a performance by a supergroup consisting of Billie Joe Armstrong, Tim Armstrong, Travis Barker, and CJ Ramone covering Ramones classics.
