Remi Wolf has announced her third album, Mud, due out October 9th via Island Records. The latest single, “Bottle,” will be released this Thursday, August 20th.
The announcement arrives after the release of the lead single “Twiggy,” a recent highlight in our Staff Picks. Mud will feature eleven tracks total, including “Bottle” and “Twiggy.”
According to a press release, Mud expands on the soundscape that Wolf introduced on the lead single, itself a further refinement of Wolf’s unbound imagination. The concluding collection of songs are “warmer, more spacious, and deeply human without sacrificing the adventurous spirit that has always defined her work.”
In a statement, Wolf expressed how the album has helped her transition emotionally. “I feel like I’ve crossed into a new phase of life because of this album,” she said. “I literally felt like I was covered in shit. And now, at the end of the album process, I feel so clean and clear. It has been a very cleansing record to make for me.”
Per Wolf, the album emerged after an uninterrupted run of touring, writing, and recording. For the first time in years, Wolf found herself in a period of deep reflection. While early sessions in Nashville shaped the album, Mud found its “spiritual center” during Wolf’s retreat to Big Bear with longtime collaborator Jared Solomon, as well as the trusted creative circle of Jack DeMeo, Jamie McLaughlin, and Gigi Grombacher. The result is an “earthy, lived-in sound rooted in melody, storytelling, and performances that feel unmistakably alive.”
Wolf’s most recent album, Big Ideas, landed on our list of the Best Albums of 2024. Prior to showcasing the artist on that list, Consequence shouted her out with a CoSign in 2021, which highlighted her whimsical debut album Juno.
