Ricky Martin has been revealed as a cast member and executive producer of Gael García Bernal’s upcoming film Hombre al Agua, confirming speculation surrounding the singer’s involvement in the project.
According to Deadline, Martin quietly joined the production shortly before filming began in Mérida, Mexico, and shot his scenes in a single day. His involvement was kept under wraps until now, ahead of the film’s upcoming premieres at the Venice and Toronto film festivals.

Martin plays Roby, an actor hired to portray the film’s protagonist in a movie-within-the-movie. The part marks his first fully Spanish-language on-screen role in more than two decades.
“Ricky was one of those wonderful accidents,” García Bernal told Deadline, explaining that Martin was the first person he envisioned for the role but initially considered casting him an “almost impossible idea.” After eventually reaching Martin by phone, García Bernal said the singer agreed before he had even fully explained the project.
Martin’s acting career dates back to the early 1990s, including Alcanzar una estrella II and a two-year stint as Miguel Morez on General Hospital. More recently, he appeared in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story and Palm Royale.
