RUSH have provided yet another surprise within the first few shows of their “Fifty Something” tour, this time playing their multiplatinum 1981 album Moving Pictures in its entirety from front to back.

The performance came on Thursday, June 11th, at the KIA Forum in Inglewood, California, the third of four nights at the venue, and the third show of the reunion tour overall.

The full-album showcase served as the opening run of Set 2, the same position where the entire “2112” suite was performed two nights earlier. Six of the seven Moving Pictures songs had been played previously over the two prior shows at the Forum, but this show found the band adding “The Camera Eye,” with a new piano intro by keyboardist Loren Gold, and playing the entire LP in sequential order.

Only two other new songs entered the setlist on Thursday night, those being live staple “Red Sector A” and “New World Man,” which hadn’t been played since almost 25 years ago. Aimee Mann once again performed “Time Stand Still” with the band, mirroring her similar appearances on nights 1 and 2.

RUSH continue to keep fans on their toes with surprises like this having come every show so far. The total song count the band has played over these three performances currently sits at 34 (counting “2112” as one song), just four shy of the 38 that Geddy Lee teased in an interview prior to the tour’s kick off.

RUSH’s “Fifty Something” reunion tour was one of our 10 must-see tours of the summer, and it certainly is proving to be a must-see show. Tickets are available here.

A few years back, Consequence hosted a roundtable featuring drummers Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Matt Halpern (Periphery), and Arejay Hale (Halestorm) discussing Moving Pictures and the late Neil Peart.
