Any time we don’t hear from Sacha Baron Cohen for a while, we should just assume he’s up to something involving concealed cameras and outlandish characters. According to Variety, the British comedian has revived the character of Ali G — featured in the series Da Ali G Show and the 2002 film Ali G Indahouse — for a new movie shot in secret.
In 2023 (during the writers/actors strikes), it was reported that Cohen was planning to revive the character for a standup tour — it appears that the tour did not happen, but it perhaps evolved into this project. Not much is known about the movie, but it’s likely that Cohen is using Ali G to make other people, whether they be ordinary or famous, look ridiculous. Cohen previously used a similar format for the two Borat movies, which featured his Kazakhstanian journalist character confronting the likes of real life politicians and Pamela Anderson.
