Rather than recreate Rodrigo’s original, Spiro filtered the ballad through her own soulful, almost pained style. Backed by a restrained arrangement of swelling strings, piano, and backing vocals that gradually builds in intensity, the 20-year-old London artist leaned into the song’s heartache with rich vocal runs, effortless high notes, and the powerhouse voice that’s quickly become her signature.
Alongside her Rodrigo cover, Spiro also performed “Great Expectation,” one of Visitor’s standout tracks, as she prepares to embark on a world tour in support of the album (get tickets here), kicking off this fall. Rodrigo, meanwhile, is riding the success of her recently released third album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, where “less” first appeared. The pop superstar will also hit the road this fall on her 65-date “Unraveled Tour” (get tickets here) after hosting the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival in California later this summer.
