The surviving members of Soundgarden reunited for a halftime performance at the Seattle Seahawks’ home opener against the New England Patriots at Lumen Field on Wednesday night. The band was fronted by The Pretty Reckless’ Taylor Momsen, with Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready providing additional guitar.
Momsen and McCready joined Soundgarden’s Matt Cameron, Kim Thayil, and Ben Shepherd to perform “Outshined” and “Spoonman” during the halftime festivities. The band was joined by the Seattle Seahawks’ “Blue Thunder” drumline.
However, NBC didn’t air the performance, leaving many viewers upset.
McCready also performed the National Anthem on guitar prior to the game, which kicked off the NFL’s 2026-2027 season and featured a rematch of the most recent Super Bowl. Just like the Super Bowl, Seattle came out victorious on Wednesday night, beating New England 13-10.
Since frontman Chris Cornell’s death in May 2017, Soundgarden have only performed a handful of gigs with guest singers. Momsen and McCready previously joined the band during a performance at their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in November 2025, the last time they took the stage.
Cameron, Thayil, and Shepherd have been working on a new Soundgarden album featuring vocals that Cornell recorded before his passing. In July, Cameron reported that the album is in the mixing stages, and that the band was hashing out a plan for its release.
Meanwhile, Taylor Momsen briefly stepped away from The Pretty Reckless’ ongoing North American tour with AC/DC to perform at the NFL game, resulting in Foo Fighters filling in the support slot in St. Louis on Tuesday night. The Pretty Reckless will be back opening for AC/DC for the remainder of the tour, with tickets available here.
