Steve Lacy has announced his new album, Oh yeah?, due out July 17th via RCA Records, and released the latest single, “the feeling.”
The genre busting, indie pop, alternative R&B hitmaker wrote, performed, and produced Oh yeah? The album promises to be his “most personal art to date,” a press release said, and will contain “Lacy’s most personal, transparent lyrics, allowing him to further design an aural world that is singularly him.”
With “the feeling,” Lacy is positioning himself as a musician seeking to inherit Prince’s throne within modern-day genres. The song is groovy and somber, melding wah-wah bass lines with cavernous melodies that culminate in the lyrics, “Afterall, there’s one thing that I don’t know/ Am I your baby?” Lacy alternates his vocal approach between dreamy pop and laconic rap, giving the song an unsettled and undeniable feeling. The new song is the second single unveiled from Oh yeah?. The Grammy-winning guitarist and songwriter from The Internet put out “Nice Shoes” in August. The forthcoming album will be Lacy’s third and follows 2022’s Gemini Rights.
