The Linda Lindas have announced a new album, Gotta Get Out, out on August 28th via Reprise/Warner Records. They’ve also shared the new single “Closer” featuring Hayley Williams.
Gotta Get Out serves as The Linda Lindas’ third studio album, following 2022’s Growing Up and 2024’s No Obligation. The quartet opted to write their new album together in the same room for the first time, resulting in a more intentional and expansive sound for their third album. It’s also their first release since signing to Reprise Records from their former label Epitaph earlier this year.
Following last month’s “Burning Out,” The Linda Lindas have now offered a second preview of Gotta Get Out, “Closer” (feat. Hayley Williams). With some heavier guitars and an angsty hue, the song definitely recalls Williams’ work with Paramore, especially their Riot! and Brand New Eyes eras. Williams takes the chorus, with some spiky group shouts of “breathing in and breaking down” popping in and out of the fray; the song also features a particularly energizing bridge, where drummer Mila de la Garza shifts the rhythm from half time and vocalist Bela Salazar provides an anthemic lament.
“Closer” is about feeling like you’re losing control of time, and watching yourself grow older from afar,” Salazar and Lucia de la Garza said in a statement. “Lately, we’ve been realizing how important it is to stay present, especially when our lives feel constantly in motion. It feels perfect that Hayley Williams was down to collaborate on this song with us, because we’ve been fans of her throughout so many of her different eras — and she’s seen us grow up over the last ten years! We’ll always be honored that we got to write and get emo with the queen of emo herself.” Stream “Closer” below.
The Linda Lindas have yet to announce a headlining tour in support of Gotta Get Out, but they do have a handful of tour dates coming up this fall supporting Bleachers. They’ll also perform at Tom Morello’s Power to the People festival in Columbia, Maryland, joining a stacked lineup that also features Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen, Brittany Howard, and more.
