Patrick Renna, who starred as Ham Porter in The Sandlot, is bringing the gang back together for a new TV series titled Dugout Dads, reports Deadline.
Renna will star in the comedy show as an idealistic dad who coaches his kids’ Little League team and must keep his cool while dealing with unruly behavior from other coaches and parents. Danielle Fishel (Boy Meets World) will play his character’s wife.
While all of the characters in the series are original and do not carry over from The Sandlot, many of Renna’s castmates from the 1993 movie will appear, including Tom Guiry, Chauncey Leopardi, Marty York, Brandon Quintin Adams, Victor DiMattia, Shane Obedzinski, Grant Gelt, and Will Horneff.
“After years of coaching Little League, I’ve witnessed some truly epic meltdowns on the field, and it’s always the adults (I’d be lying if I said it was never me). I just knew those experiences had to become a show,” Renna said in a statement. “What makes it even more special is that it’s bringing me back together with the cast of The Sandlot, guys I’ve shared a unique bond and brotherhood with for more than 30 years. It feels like a story I was meant to tell, with exactly the right people to tell it with.”
Renna will produce Dugout Dads through his Hambino Media company. Sebastian Jones (Friends) and Dan Kopelman (Malcolm in the Middle) will write, with Victor Nelli Jr. serving as director. The series is currently set to be released later this year.
