During their headlining set at Boston’s TD Garden last night (June 23rd), The Strokes busted out a cover of The Walkmen’s 2012 track “Heaven” with the band’s frontman, Hamilton Leithauser, joining them.
Leithauser is currently supporting The Strokes on their US tour, and he joined the New York band onstage during the encore to perform the cover. “I’m gonna just make my dreams come true,” said The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas as he introduced Leithauser. “I just love this song, and Hamilton has such a great voice, so he’s gonna come and play a little Walkmen song because he doesn’t do that in his show — well, he does, but not this one. Hamilton Leithauser, come on down.” Casablancas didn’t actually join Leithauser in the performance, instead enjoying the cover from side stage; still, The Strokes’ instrumentalists slotted in for The Walkmen’s perfectly. Watch their rendition of “Heaven” below.
The Strokes have a lengthy stretch of tour dates ahead of them before the July 24th release of Reality Awaits, their first new album in six years. Pre-order the record here, and get tickets to see The Strokes here.
