This Is Lorelei — the solo project of Water from Your Eyes’ Nate Amos — has announced his first full-length album as part of the Matador Records roster. Spanning 11 tracks, The Singer in My Band is due out September 11th.
According to a press release, the record sees Amos take the “building blocks of the Great American Songbook” and then “twist those elemental pieces into new shapes, at once both strangely familiar and endearingly offbeat in Amos’ signature style.” Amos also called this the “first true road record” in his sturdy discography.

“The ideas incubated while daydreaming in the car without access to any instruments,” Amos said in a statement. “So instead of being home and writing on the guitar or a computer, they developed slowly and subconsciously, existing as a sort of intangible thing while looking out the van window.”
Across the album, Amos makes use of several narrators — named Joey, Billy, Sarah, Genevieve, and Buddy — an “Altman-esque ensemble” that “traffic in wild stories and chaotic experiences that are at once oddly specific and just a bit blurry, mirroring Amos’ experience of these last several year.”
Added Amos, “It’s funny, I sent my dad the album after I finished it, and he said it was kind of an ‘on the road beatnik’ album and that reframed it for me. It really is like a collection of chaotic experiences that you have while traveling. They’re also very much little works of fiction with elements of truth to them.”
And our first “stop” in The Singer in My Band is lead single “Billy Came Back.” As propulsive as a steady pick-up truck, Amos said the song “stewed for months before I picked up a guitar to work it out,” adding, “I kept forgetting about it but it always came back. Finishing the song was the only way to get it to leave me alone.” Check it out below.

As previously reported, Amos and This Is Lorelei will be on tour later this year. That includes a string of midwest concerts with Jack Antonoff’s Bleachers in September and October. Check out the full schedule following the album tracklist and artwork. Grab your tickets now via Ticketmaster.
As one half of former CoSigns Water from Your Eyes, Amos is coming off a great record and run with Hayley Williams. As far as his solo project goes, This Is Lorelei has quietly become everyone and their band’s favorite indie act, with artists like Cameron Winter and Wilco covering his tunes and others like Power Snatch, Waxahatchee, MJ Lenderman, and Snail Mail appearing on the super deluxe version of his wonderful 2024 LP Box For Buddy, Box For Star.
