Tom Morello and Beartooth have collaborated on a new song, “Everything Burns,” which is featured in the latest update for Final Fantasy XIV.
Produced by Tyler Smyth (Falling in Reverse, I Prevail), the anthemic song is a hybrid of tech-y metalcore and rap rock, with Morello’s guitarwork guiding the arrangement through uptempo sections, massive drops, and quieter verses in which Beartooth frontman Caleb Shomo’s vocal is upfront. He raps during these parts, busting out a more metal/hard rock delivery for the heavier sections.
The three-minute track arrives via the “Into the Mist” Patch 7.4 update for the long-running MMORPG from Square Enix, and players will experience it in one of the most pivotal parts of the game. Additionally, Morello revealed that the song also serves as a single from his forthcoming solo album.
“’Everything Burns’ is a high energy riff heavy banger that feels like it’s rising from the streets,” Morello said via a press release. “Collaborating with Beartooth and super producer Tyler Smyth to forge this ferocious next single from my upcoming solo album was a real thrill.”
Added Shomo on the making of the song: “Creating ‘Everything Burns’ was the definition of lightning in a bottle. Pressure makes diamonds. When I got a call saying Tom Morello wants you to sing on a song for a huge project and it’s due in a few hours I had no idea what would happen, but I gave it all I had and it turned into something that’s truly once in a lifetime. I couldn’t be more honored to be a part of this with Tom and the entire Final Fantasy family that made this happen. Life goal achieved.”
