Tom Morello has announced his first solo rock album, titled Everyone Gets Everything They Want, out September 25th on Mom + Pop Music.
Alongside the announcement comes the LP’s second single, “Date Night.”
“Date Night” is another heavily political ripper from Morello, this time telling the true story of three young Dutch girls who seduced Nazi officers, luring them into the woods before killing them, along a parallel career of gunrunning, sabotage, and aiding Jewish children evading Nazi capture.
Morello said of the song, “I make anti-racist songs for anti-racists. I make anti-fascist songs for anti-fascists. And I make anti-Nazi songs for anti-Nazis. ‘Date Night’ is really a ‘which side are you on?’ song. If any of that offends you, do the math. Oh, and Roman Morello wrote the killer riff in this tune.”
This makes the second single that Tom Morello’s son Roman had a major hand in writing, with previous single “Adjourn It” also having its main riff penned by the young guitarist. That track, which also features Serj Tankian, was named our Heavy Song of the Week at the time of its release.
Everyone Gets Everything They Want is the first solo rock album from Morello in his nearly 40-year career since his debut on Lock Up’s 1989 album Something Bitchin’ This Way Comes. In addition to his legendary run with Rage Against the Machine, he has released four solo folk albums under the name the Nightwatchman as well as four collaborative rock records under his own name, with this being the first to primarily center on Morello as a frontman.
Morello is currently preparing for a short run of shows through September including two headlining gigs, a slot at Louder Than Life, and his own Power to the People festival, with a Canadian tour scheduled for March of next year.
