Weezer are back with “Shine Again,” their first new song since 2022.

Rivers Cuomo and co. are no strangers to using grittier guitars throughout their three-decade career, and on “Shine Again,” they reprise the fuzzy, grungier sound found across their early and mid-2000s work. Built around a single syncopated guitar chord, the track rolls with plenty of momentum and fragmented lyrics from Cuomo. It’s a song about devotion and reminding someone that “the sun inside will shine again,” which is sweet; meanwhile, the band dials back into their core power-pop style and escalates “Shine Again” to rousing heights. “Shine Again” serves as the lead single for Weezer’s still-unannounced 16th studio album. The band have tapped Kenneth Blume (A.K.A. Kenny Beats) and Klas Åhlund (producer of Robyn’s new album) as producers for the new project; their last album was 2021’s metal-tinged Van Weezer, which was followed by their four-part SZNZ EP series in 2022.

The group will support their new project with a tour titled “Weezer: The Gathering.” Joined by The Shins and Silversun Pickups, the 32-date arena trek goes down in the US and Canada this fall. Tickets for the tour will go on sale for the general public on Friday, April 3rd at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster; see their tour dates below.
