Weezer began their “The Gathering” North American tour at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California on Tuesday, September 8th, performing a variety of rarities along with tracks from their recent album, Weezer (A.K.A. The Gold Album).
The show commenced with an opening performance from Silversun Pickups, who dusted off the usual fan-favorites “Well Thought Out Twinkles,” “Panic Switch,” and “Lazy Eye” for their set. The Shins followed shortly after, performing their first extended, full-band show in four years. They opened with “Simple Song,” continuing with “Australia,” and Chutes Too Narrow‘s “Gone for Good.” They rounded things out with staples like “Heartworms,” “Caring Is Creepy,” and “New Slang,” closing the set with “Sleeping Lessons.”
Then came the main event: Weezer took the stage around 9:20 p.m., performing on a set that was fashioned as a cozy backyard; they had a campfire, plants around the stage, a picnic bench, string lights, an actual house, and more homey props and set pieces. They kicked things off with a short video introducing the show, featuring a young Weezer fan telling bullies that the band would be playing at his house that night. The fan then calls “Weezer’s agent” and offers them 98 cents to play, but gets rejected; hopeless, he draws Weezer symbols and an infinity sign, which magically reaches Rivers Cuomo and inspires him to get the band together for “The Gathering.”
The band then arrived on stage and played opening song “Shine Again,” the lead single off their recently-released album. They continued with “Surf Wax America,” followed by the first performance of “Keep Fishin'” — a track from their 2002 album Maladroit — in eight years (later, the band performed “Slob” from Maladroit for the first time since 2005).
Weezer kept “The Gathering” going with beloved tracks like “Hash Pipe,” “Beverly Hills,” “Pork and Beans,” “My Name Is Jonas,” “Undone – The Sweater Song,” and more. They notably performed six (!) tracks from their 1996 album Pinkerton, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year; they played “No Other One” for the first time since 2019 and dusted off “The Good Life,” “Falling for You,” “Pink Triangle,” “Tired of Sex,” and “El Scorcho.”
Weezer also invited Silversun Pickups bassist Nikki Monninger to the stage for a trio of duets, starting with new track “We Might as Well Be Strangers.” They followed with “Go Away” and “I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams,” two duets that have respectively gone viral in 2026 years after their original release. After the duet section, Weezer continued running through their hits until closing out the show with “Island in the Sun.” Check out their full setlist below along with fan-captured videos of their opening show in Sacramento.
Weezer will keep “The Gathering” going alongside The Shins and Silversun Pickups through October, with a slate of Japan shows set for February 2027 and a European tour with Taking Back Sunday following in May.
